High School Meme

I thought this one sounded fun. Saw it on Andrea’s blog.

1 Who was your best friend?
Tina, Kim, Lisa, and Nikki. Tina drifted away because she got a super-religious boyfriend and married him right after high-school. Kim drifted away because she started dating a boy I had, um, “dated”, and that squicked her out and then she got pregnant right after high school. As did Lisa. Both of these girls had sworn no sex ’til marriage, and didn’t listen to my condom lecture. My parents didn’t send me to church, but I managed to not get pregnant for quite some time. Nikki is still one of my best friends, and Peanut liked to pretend that she’s Nikki’s baby’s big sister.

2 What sports did you play?
Nothing organized.

3 What kind of car did you drive?
First, a 1984 Renault LeCar. It had a choke, and three strong guys could lift it. And did.
Second, a 1982 Cadillac Sedan deVille. It was literally twice as long as the Renault, and sucked so much gas it would put a Hummer to shame.
After that, I drove a variety of cheap old cars until they broke down.

4 It’s Friday night, where were you?
If I wasn’t at home reading, then I was out at a non-alcohol teen dance club, dancing away to Bel Biv Devoe.

5 Were you a party animal?
I wasn’t a drug user, nor did I drink very often. But I did like going out dancing a lot.

6 Were you considered a flirt?
I think Nikki would describe that as the understatement of the year.

7 Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
I had to quit band (trumpet) in junior high because of braces. I was in choir and show choir as long as I was healthy.

8 Were you a nerd?
I guess so. I wasn’t popular, but I wasn’t nerdy in the traditional stereotype. I really didn’t fit in at my school, but I did okay when I went to the larger city nearby. I would have been goth/punk, but I refused to wear heavy black clothing when it was hot out and my mom would only buy me so many pairs of black tights. My friend’s little brother thought I was dressed up as a vampire one night when we were on our way out to the club (black hair, pale skin, red lips).

9 Did you get suspended/expelled?
No, not so much as a detention (my mom taught at my school, and she excused me the one day in my life that I skipped).

10 Can you sing the fight song?
Yes, and the alternative version. It’s the same as the Notre Dame fight song.

11 Who was your favorite teacher?
My history teachers were all my favorite teachers. I was good at that subject, and instead of finding it annoying that I needed more advanced work, they thought it was great.

12 School mascot?
Bulldog. One guy friend of mine got it tattooed on his bicep.

13 Did you go to Prom?
Yes, sophomore, junior, and senior year. None of them were particularly pleasant experiences.

14 If you could go back and do it over, would you?
Only if you promised me I would stay that skinny through adulthood, and then I’d still have to think about it.

15 What do you remember most about graduation?
Watching everyone else graduate while I sat in the roasting hot bleachers. That, and I had missed so much school I didn’t get invited to any graduation parties.

16 Where were you on senior skip day?
Seniors who skipped on that day were told they couldn’t receive their diplomas, so there wasn’t one. Plus, I missed so much anyway it didn’t matter.

17 Did you have a job your senior year?
I was not allowed to work during the school year, and that year I couldn’t have held a job anyway.

18 Where did you go most often for lunch?
Either home or the cafeteria. The only other choice was a Hardee’s restaurant. We only had a half-hour for lunch.

19 Have you gained weight since then?
I have gained a second-grader’s worth.

20 What did you do after graduation?
I found a retail job, moved in with my boyfriend, and got my GED. The next year I went to NYC for college.

21 When did you graduate?
Should have in 1991. GED was in 1992.

22 Who was your Senior prom date?
A skinny kid with a huge mullet named Matt who didn’t believe me when I said we were going as friends because the guy I’d been dating decided he didn’t want to spend the money on prom. Matt ditched me when my parents made me go to post prom instead of a beer party afterwards. I told you they weren’t pleasant memories.

23 Are you going / did you go to your 10 year reunion?
Yes, and I had a good time.

24 Who was your home room teacher?
They changed at semester. I only remember who one of them was.

25 Who will repost this after you?
Probably no one, but I hope someone does.
